We need to stick together and help them. Taking into account everything that is happening, the right to travel on trains and buses is a small but important piece so that our friends from Ukraine feel more comfortable and safe in Estonia,“ said the Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Taavi Aas.
From March 11, Elron and the Transport Authority, in cooperation with public transport centres, provide free travel for Ukrainian war refugees. Cities that organise their bus, tram and trolleybus lines have also joined in providing free travel to war refugees. The right to travel free of charge does not extend to commercial bus lines (eg Tallinn-Tartu bus lines).
To prove their right to travel free of charge, war refugees receive a corresponding public transport card from the host local government or regional Public Transport Center, which is valid on trains, trams, trolleys and buses.
